Last month we extensively covered the death of a Eugene Police officer who was killed in the line of duty while attempting to pull over a speeding car. He pulled up along side the car, the driver pulled a gun, and bang... his life was over.
This shrine built around his patrol bike has been sitting outside of EPD for weeks now.
A public memorial was attended by hundreds, and a region wide motorcade was observed by thousands, to honor his life and service in this community.
Meanwhile... across town... some weeks later... a man with no name was walking through an alley behind a gas station, when boom, he dropped dead.
How he died will likely never be known by more than the lone corner who performs his autopsy, and files away his paperwork. There will likely be no memorial... there will certainly be no motorcade.
Two men... two deaths... two very different lives... and different stories...
